So in order to get a discount on my employer-provided insurance, I have to have a number of tests, including cholesterol.
My cholesterol for the last 15-20 years has been between 210 and 220ish. This year, it came in at 265! Shocked!
I'm now eating less meat, way less dairy, way more vegetables (I would say 5-7 servings most days) than I ever have. Little butter, most of cooking fats are mono or unsaturated, when I use them, and I don't use a lot. I exercise a minimum of 45 minutes 5 times a week (aerobically). Never do soda, sweets are in small portions and not every day. I have significantly cut down my carb consumption. I would say I've really stepped up on healthy habits in the last 2 years, and this is the result!
My siblings and my dad all have high cholesterol. Yes, I am somewhat overweight, but my weight has not changed in 20 years (5'2" 128-130 lbs).
Am what I'm seeing the result of impending menopause (I'm 53 but haven't gotten there yet)? Should I go see my physician? Could there be some organic reason for the increase cholesterol? Its a different lab this year, so perhaps its just that.
Having seen what statins have done to my parents (huge memory issues), I'll starve myself to 100 pounds before doing that.
