Mattress topper

I think we've talked about these, but now that I'm ready to buy one, any current comments? I don't really have trouble with "my back" or related issues, but wehn we went out of town recently to stay in hotels and motels, I was struck by how deeply comfortable were the mattresses. I'm sure they had these topper things on them.



The gel kind--good or bad?



Are these things hot, hotter in the summer than just a mattress?



Because I'm not looking for any kind of pain relief, I don't need to spend much. But I'll spend whatever I need to in order to get a good one.
